How Follows What is a production studio for New York based filmmaker and photographer, Sam Fleischner.
The name is a play on the old idiom, Form Follows Function, with a belief that the subject (what) should guide style (how). The resulting work comes from varied methods of visual craft, while seeking to satisfy a curiosity about how things are made.
From narrative feature films like Wah Do Dem, Stand Clear of the Closing Doors, to unconventional documentaries like Below the Brain, and Ten Trees, music videos and branded work, Fleischner works across the board as a writer, producer, director, cameraman, editor, and movie presenter.
Fleischner co-founded Rockaway Film Festival in 2018.
